NEWS round-up

A MAN from Cleator Moor is facing a lengthy prison sentence unless he can convince a judge he was only looking after the cocaine he was caught with for someone else.

Gary William Gunn, 20, of Buckle Avenue, pleaded guilty at Carlisle Crown Court on Monday to two charges of supplying the drug and one of possessing it with intent to supply. But his explanation that he was only minding it for someone else was not accepted by the prosecution, who say that he was himself the dealer.

A hearing will be held on September 16 at which a judge will decide which explanation to accept. In the meantime, Gunn was remanded on bail.

Wind turbine approved

A NEW wind turbine will be built on the outskirts of Whitehaven.

Planners also approved a 16-metre wind monitoring mast at Langthwaite Farm, Millom. It will be in place for a three-year period.

They were inspired to help after hearing about the shootings in Copeland on June 2. About 20 members took part in a night-long angling session at Silecroft and raised £306 for the charity.
