THE Cumbria Golf Partnership has announced details of Year 2 of the Cumbria Futures Golf Academy.
Following on from the success of Year 1, the Academy is now actively recruiting junior boys and girls for Year 2.
It is open to all juniors aged between nine and 15 years of age and who have some experience of golf and may or may not be a member of a club.
This year three new additional coaches will be joining the Academy, Mark Mattinson from Cumbria Golf Centre & Driving Range, Whitehaven; Andrew Wells, Professional, Workington Golf Club and Paul Jenkinson, Professional, Penrith Golf Centre & Driving Range and will join the existing team of 10 coaches throughout the county.
Paul said: “This national training initiative is a county wide coaching programme aimed at identifying and encouraging talented and enthusiastic junior golfers from all backgrounds, who are just below the County criteria for inclusion in county squad coaching.
“This enables counties to cast their net wider and find more talented youngsters who, with the right encouragement and coaching, might be able to make the step up to County standard.”
Four open talent assessment days will take place during the summer holidays at:
Saturday, August 14 - Carus Green Golf Club & Driving Range – 9.30-11.30am; Saturday, August 21 - Cumbria Golf Centre & Driving Range, Whitehaven – 1-3pm; Tuesday, August 24 - Eden Golf Club & Driving Range, Carlisle – 6-8pm; Thursday, August 26 - Penrith Golf Centre & Driving Range – 6-8pm.
The application form can be downloaded from www.activecumbria.com/golf
