DARTS legend Bob Anderson, nicknamed ‘the Limestone Cowboy’, proved he was still a force to be reckoned with as he challenged local players in Whitehaven’s Betfred shop on Monday.
The ex-World Champion and three-time World Masters champion visited the shop as part of his tour of Betfred stores in Cumbria.
Bob retired from professional darts two years ago, and is now focusing on playing at fundraisers and exhibition matches.
And in two weeks he will be touring Australia with fellow ex-England pro Alan Warriner-Little of Maryport.
This is Bob’s first visit to Cumbria in 20 years, and fellow ex-professional John Kane joined him at Monday’s event.
As someone who has often stayed in St Bees and who knows Workington well, he is enjoying meeting familiar faces from the local area.
“It’s nice to be back in the area,” said Bob.
“Whitehaven has been very welcoming and the people have been great.”
“I’ve come across some very keen players today, and a few talented prospects have impressed.”
Though Bob is currently retired, he spends a lot of his time with the ‘League of Legends’ as an organiser and player.
The series begins on October 2 in Leicester, and features other darting legends such as Bobby George and Eric Bristow.
He will enter the series as an ex-champion having won the title in 2008.
And it is not just darts where he excels. As a youngster he represented the British Javelin Olympic Team, and then switched to playing football for Lincoln United, Farnborough, and Woking FC.
He is also a keen golfer, with a single figure handicap of seven.
An incredibly talented sportsman, Bob threw his first treble at the tender age of five.
