IN response to a Whitehaven woman’s plea to the council, she will receive help towards housing, says a Copeland Council spokesman.
Amanda Farrington, 35, feared that even though she is due to go into hospital, she will be no longer eligible for homeless housing because her name is still on the rent books of her ex-husband’s house.
But a Council spokesman told The Whitehaven News: this week: “Copeland Borough Council has a duty to provide temporary housing for the homeless, and to help those who are homeless find permanent accommodation. It is in respect of this that we have been working with Ms Farrington.
“Issues relating to Ms Farrington’s former home and re-housing requirements are not connected to Copeland Borough Council, as we do not own any social housing. This was transferred to Copeland Homes in 2004.”
Mrs Farrington, of Croasdale Avenue, Mirehouse, suffers from cervical cancer and is waiting this week to go into hospital for life-saving surgery.
