Colourful way to explore

A GUIDE to Cumbria has been launched, aimed at children.
Lake District Unlocked is a colourful introduction to Cumbria. It introduces the delights of Muncaster Castle, Ducky’s Park Farm and many more to the younger visitor.
The book retails at £7.99 and works for every penny over the 122 pages. Its bright and vibrant colour entices the young and the writing style provides a light, but surprisingly informative read. All the Lakes’ attractions are divided into geographical regions for ease of use.
Each double page adopts an inviting template. The first page contains an introduction of basic information and a ‘sticker score’ section; the child uses the gold-star stickers to rate each attraction out of five. The second page is then divided into photos, facts, tips for other local attractions and contact information. Although this sounds somewhat generic, Done’s writing style encourages you to read on and learn more about the area. At the very least, it’s far more approachable than a collection of leaflets.
Author Deborah Done said: “The best thing about researching the book was taking my son to great places that I remember from my own childhood.”
Aside from the main sections, there is a Top 5 section which shows the highlights of each type of attraction and a parent’s guide to getting the best out of the book.
It’s hard to describe it as essential reading for more seasoned Cumbrians, but for those wanting to inspire visiting relatives about their holiday, then it fully achieves its goal.
Lake District Unlocked is £8.99.
