THRILLED: Sue Palmer

Copeland councillors this week offered financial backing to a project to create a ‘popular culture’ gallery to replace the current ‘law and order’ section.

“I am thrilled that we are going to start work on this new gallery,” said The Beacon’s manager Sue Palmer.“The Beacon has been hugely popular since it reopened, and we want to ensure that the facility keeps on entertaining and enthralling its visitors.“By changing our galleries, we can not only do that, but we can ensure more of The Beacon’s impressive collection is on display for all to see.”

The redevelopment should be completed by February. It is the first of three gallery changes planned.Copeland Council’s executive approved funds to be allocated to the scheme at a meeting this week.Councillor Hugh Branney, portfolio holder for leisure, culture and youth, said: “The Beacon is an award-winning facility that delights the crowds who visit.“The refit plans will ensure that The Beacon remains fresh, fascinating and fun for all, as well as a place you can visit time and time again.”
